The Journey features Anna Schaad's renowned violin voice with heart wrenching emotion. A blending of classical, Celtic and world influence, "The Journey" reflects Schaad’s innovative eclectic style. Her classically sophisticated melodies ripe with raspy blues riffs, rocking lead solos and Celtic yarns come alive in this Neo-classical pop album.
"The Journey" draws upon Schaad’s extensive talents as a composer and classically trained violinist, coupled with her unquenchable passion for diverse musical styles from around the world. A beautifully illustrated 20 page booklet comes with each CD. The booklet written in Schaad's fluent prose, gives the listener a deeper understanding of the concepts and imagery inherent in the music. |
Songspell, a CD of original instrumental music described as "Celtic-Blues Fusion", builds upon Anna Schaad's musical collaboration with David MacVittie on her 1998 release "The Raven Project". With Schaad's electric viola Wicked Grace, acoustic and electric fiddles, bodhran, and MacVittie's bouzouki, electric and acoustic guitars, slide guitar, flutes and harmonica, "Songspell" lays out a series of lively tunes which keep listeners tapping their toes... maybe even dancing a jig. Sample - one minute MP3 of track #1: "Songspell" "Anna Schaad and David MacVittie put on a stunning production...one of the most impressive local musical events ever staged at The Mount Baker Theater. MacVittie's soulful slide guitar work was outstanding ans provides the perfect counterpoint for Anna's electric viola.. and impressive display of musical showmanship." |
The Raven Project, Anna Schaad's 1998 solo debut CD, consists of her original compositions as well as joint works with multi-instrumentalist David MacVittie. The project was designed to showcase her electric viola, "Wicked Grace". (Custom-built in 1996 by Steven Smith, "Wicked Grace" features a carved ebony raven's head in place of the traditional scroll.) The Raven Project combines this unique instrument with bouzouki, slide guitar, saxophone, African drums and Hightland bagpipes. Sample - one minute MP3 of track #2: "Swamp Four" "Ms. Schaad's solo fiddle on "Maria" tells of masterly technique, traditionalism and classical influence. Following, "Wah Special" yields a bit of everything that is further: bluesy electric guitar, African drumming and Schaad's electric viola. When typically disparate sounds are interlaced with care, the result is intriguing patois." "I am a big fan of classical music and rock-n-roll. I'm either listening to Mozart or Van Halen. To me, your music combines the two. It's fabulous!" "Schaad can make her Raven-headed axe scream and wail like Jimi Hendrix' stratocaster... or produce the hypnotic otherworldly sound of a more traditional violin/viola." "The Raven Project" has proven to be a resounding regional success, winning a prized spot on Cellophane Square's NW top 10 charts (Bellingham, Seattle, Bellevue) and receiving heavy airplay on KISM 92.9FM as one of the year's most popular "Locals Only" picks. |
